Test report for SIGG (Sigg) water bottle inner coating in Switzerland Read more >>

As we all know, there is an independent consumer product testing agency in Germany called the Frankfurt Independent Consumer Product Testing Agency. It used to do exhaustive analysis and evaluation of many aluminum drinking water bottles. This test report provides a solid theoretical basis for the quality debate with our competitors (similar products). As you will see in the report, the organization carefully analyzed the various accessories and inner coatings for each product. Because the exposed aluminum shell and the beverage are in direct contact with each other, a slight amount of dissolution is caused, thereby causing the beverage to be "contaminated", and this problem concerning the health of the user has become the focus of attention.

The results of the test clearly demonstrated that "only two water bottles tested by SIGG... did not detect any traces of aluminum ions."

This test result was implemented and released in 1997 and still has its reference value. Because it clearly illustrates the outstanding quality and meticulous quality of the SIGG bottle. Since many users and distributors want to see this report, we specifically requested the English material of this report from the German independent consumer product testing agency. And translate it so that everyone can fully understand the quality of SIGG Seal, and provide you with a strong basis for product sales and answering customer questions. Evaluation Report on Aluminum Drinking Water Bottles: Report on Trace Substance Residues

Aluminum drinking water bottles are a popular alternative to disposable beverage bottles. However, the shells of some water bottles actually dissolve in beverages. The effect on the health of people is of concern. In the testing process, only one manufacturer did not produce such products. Metal ion precipitation problem.

In 1845, three well-equipped ships led by British explorer John Franklin left London to explore new sea routes. This is a mysterious and legendary trip to the northwest, but he and 128 of his accompanying crew members have not survived.

For more than 100 years, this unfortunate incident has led to people's various imaginations and speculations. The tragic and mysterious ending has been unpredictable. With the development of science and technology, it was not until 1985 that people unraveled the mystery of this adventure. The reason is "lead." The tins of canned food that Franklin carried with him were all sealed by "lead." The lead in the cans contaminated the food. In just a few months, "lead" chronically destroyed the health of all crew members. Although this problem has now been solved, the use of lead on cans has continued for a long time. Today, although there are no lead in the jars on the market, they have not completely avoided similar pollution problems.

In order to be accountable to consumers and clearly evaluate the safety of food containers, we tested the beer cans in 1996 when Brewery was discovered, which is considered to be a carcinogenic substance. It was coated on the inside of the jars. Composite material precipitated material. A year ago, it was because of the large amount of this substance found in canned fish that the product was banned from selling on the Swiss market.

Aluminum drinking water bottles are usually coated on the inside with a coating of synthetic material, but there are also manufacturers who have only anodized aluminum by covering the exposed metal aluminum with an artificial oxide film. Hikers, cyclists, climbers and students have chosen lightweight, unbreakable metal aluminum water bottles as alternatives to disposable beverage bottles. Andre Keller, of MCTREK Leisure Equipment in Frankfurt, Germany, said: "These water bottles are much better than the synthetic plastic water bottles we used before, because synthetic plastic water bottles are not absolutely guaranteed to be leakproof, and drinking water has a plastic taste. Harmful to health."

In order to find out if the metal aluminum will contaminate the beverage, or if the metal aluminum has an inner coating, whether the synthetic material inner coating in the water bottle has BADGE or other synthetic substances decomposes and precipitates. At the same time our laboratory also tested the water bottle coating, screen printing and caps containing PVC. PVC, namely polyvinyl chloride, is a plastic made from formaldehyde-containing resin material and is not environmentally friendly.

To this end, we chose to test the 10 water bottles used by SIGG Sieg and VAUDE brands that are the most used on the market. As a result of the test, BADGE was not detected in any of the 10 bottles tested, but in the 8 bottles with synthetic undercoats, 6 were found to contain bisphenol A (this substance has a stimulatory effect on the skin. It is also produced from synthetic materials.) The aluminum ion content of beverages in the other two water bottles without inner coating exceeded the drinking water regulations. Only the two test bottles of the most famous SIGG water bottles in Switzerland and Germany did not measure aluminum ion content. However, the PVC imprint on the SIGG Shige bottle hinders it from becoming the perfect product. (Note: The above question SIGG Sigg was completely resolved in 1998)

Prior to the measurement, we added a mixed drink of apple juice and carbonated mineral water to 10 water bottles. For the two water bottles that had too much aluminum ions, we denied its quality. VAUDE produces large and small water bottles that exceed the EU limits and the drinking water regulations of not more than 0.2 mg of aluminum ions per liter. The actual measurement results are 1.13 ml in the first bottle and 0.91 ml in the second bottle. What's wrong with the anodic treatment of batches of products,” explains Reno Fiska, responsible person at VAUDE: “After proper anodizing, the bottles should be acid-resistant.” However, the test results of the next two bottles are even higher than those of the previous two. In the apple juice and mineral water mixed drink, the aluminum ion content in our laboratory was 3.2 mg and 1.6 mg, respectively. Fiskar's companion Stephen Engers promised: "We will immediately analyze and improve the production process in order to comply with drinking water regulations."

Some people suspect that aluminum may cause Alzheimer's disease, but it has not been reliably confirmed. Dr. Luz Flori, Secretary-General of Alzheimer's Foundation in Frankfurt said, "As a risk factor, if we say that aluminum may have this effect, then , at least it can be said that its role is insignificant." He pointed out that the increase in brain aluminum content in Alzheimer's patients may be the result of measurement errors. Professor Hermann Dieter of the Federal Agency for the Environment also holds the same view: "The relationship between aluminum and Alzheimer's has not been confirmed, and in fact there is more evidence that there is no relationship between them."

In terms of the effects of aluminum on human health, scientists have a series of other viewpoints. New trials have shown that excessive aluminum ions in foods may cause arteriosclerosis and hinder the metabolism of the body's phosphate. Experiments on animals have shown that: Aluminum is a neurotoxin.

Even so, Dr. Alley of the Federal Association of Consumer Protection in Berlin still explained that “From the health point of view, the above aluminum content detected from apple juice and mineral mixed drinks is still negligible, and the limits in drinking water regulations are It must not exceed the World Health Organization's daily intake of 1 mg per kilogram of body weight. A cyclist weighing 70 kilograms will need to drink 20 to 77 liters of water to drink if it uses a water bottle without an inner coating. Numerical value."

Dr. Luz Flori of the Alzheimer's Fund Association disagrees with his view: "Aluminum is potentially dangerous to human health. Unnecessary intake should be avoided as much as possible." Al deposition during drinking can actually be Avoiding, according to the results of the test, the synthetic coating can prevent the dissolution of the metal into the drink, but the synthetic coating itself is also a problem. The LEFO organization in Allenburg has found that in most water bottles there is bisphenol A (a kind of In the case of synthetic material production, Dr. Ulin N. Lin, the product packaging expert for the organization, was not surprised to see that the test results showed that there was a material precipitate in the coating. In the process of producing synthetic materials, all chemical reaction processes have raw materials that do not react completely with each other. This is what Jodo Kaiser, a chemical expert from LEFO, said: "There will always be some useless sediments."

Bisphenol A can irritate the skin, but scientists believe this substance is not as dangerous as BADGE. Experiments on animals show that it has no carcinogenic or genetically modified effects. The bisphenol A content in aluminum bottles will gradually decrease with the use of water bottles, and the excess synthetic material in the coating will eventually disappear completely. This is why the manufacturer always advises the customer to rinse the water bottle before each use. Our tester, Jodo Cather, thinks this is a very reasonable idea, but still thinks that this test result cannot be completely accepted. Because food and consumer goods regulations point out: Unless technically unavoidable, these substances should not be allowed to dissolve in food. And the manufacturer SIGG Sieg Company proved to people that it is entirely possible to avoid deposits from synthetic coatings. When it comes to why it can be avoided, Rogge Krad, the head of SIGG's Siegel water bottle, explained that his company completely changed the production process two years ago and now uses a water-based interior coating.

In fact, other companies are also busy with other options in the inner coating of containers. Since 1996, we have learned that some substances such as BADGE and bisphenol A can be resolved from synthetic coatings. For example, the sales manager of the Werfaen German cannery explains: “We have been manufacturing various kinds of food packaging containers for the food industry in Cuxhaven since April 1996. We have been experimenting with improved products in factories there. Coating material,"

For bottle caps, some improvements can also be made. Some caps are made of polyoxymethylene, although it can be made very precise. "However, this synthetic material contains formaldehyde components." Our technical guidance is Utlan The doctor explained: "Formaldehyde is a kind of material that may cause various allergies, and it is suspected to be carcinogenic. If formaldehyde is in direct contact with liquids, it will be dissolved slightly - and the bottle cap is directly in contact with the drinks." BASF Spokesman Kevin Wei demonstrated: "In our tests, polyoxymethylene could not resist 10% citric acid at temperatures between 60°C and 80°C." However, it is not necessary for water bottles to bear this burden in normal everyday use. risk. Because pure lemon juice has only 7% acidity, this means that you can use PET bottle caps to hold hot tea and lemon without any danger.

But SIGG Seeg is looking for another option without formaldehyde. The new material is planned to be adopted within 5 months. Because SIGG's caps can be purchased individually, it can be used to replace the bottle stoppers that have been sold in the market.
Dr. Dieter Udran said: “The laboratory also tested the outside of water bottles. Some water bottles have PVC stamps, and one of them has PVC adhesive. Although this ecologically harmful PVC material is rare, it is very A small amount should also be avoided.” In the case of aluminum drinking bottles, there is another reason why PVC should not be used. That is, when aluminum and PVC are burned together, a large amount of dioxin is released, which is a cause of cancer or Ternary heterocyclic hydrocarbons. (Note: The above question SIGG Sigg was completely resolved in 1998)

From an environmental point of view, I sincerely recommend aluminum bottles, because it is very durable, and SIGG's Rove Kesley said: “As long as the coating is not damaged, they can use it all the time.” Nature and Environmental Protection Association The person in charge, Olaf Bender, also agreed to use aluminum drinking water bottles. He said: “If you can replace many disposable water bottles with one aluminum water bottle, it is very reasonable from an environmental point of view.

How long will the disposable cans and drinking bottles affect the environment? In this regard, we have been able to trace back to Franklin's expedition. Until now, those empty boxes and empty bottles have been abandoned on the islands of northern Canada.
