The Hamburg Plankton Net is used to collect large amounts of plankton, for example, for tracing or radioactivity analysis.

The Hamburg Plankton Net is equipped with a 500 micron aperture MOnyl mesh bag with a total length of 10 meters.

When the Hamburg plankton net is in the trawl, the coarse mesh cover net and 5 nylon ropes bear the tension on the fine net.
For the safety of the Hamburg plankton net, a break point has been preset in the rope, which can make the net detach when the dynamic pressure becomes very strong.

Hamburg plankton net drag speed range is 0.5 to 4 knots. It can be used at any depth. It can be successfully used even in wind environment of 7-8 level.

In the 44th and 45th investigations of the German survey ship Walter Herwig to Iceland, the Hamburg plankton network performed very well. During the 0.5-2 hour trawl, 15-35 kg of plankton were collected. These organisms are frozen and sufficient for radiochemical analysis. In 16 trawls, a total of 200kg of frozen plankton was collected.
