This adhesive is a product of the reaction of epoxy resin with liquid polysulfide, and tertiary amines are usually added as the catalyst. Epoxy-polysulfide adhesives are used as two-component liquids or pastes that cure to a rubbery solid, usually at room temperature or at elevated temperatures, giving the adhesives excellent flexibility and chemical resistance. Epoxy-polysulfide adhesives can adhere well to a variety of different adherends, but have low shear strength and poor high temperature performance, but are better in peel resistance and low temperature resistance.
Epoxy-polysulfide adhesives generally require 24 hours at 20°C, but only 20 minutes at 100°C; the bonding pressure is lower, only 0.07-0.16 MPa. There is an unpleasant odor during the bonding process, so ventilation is important. Epoxy-polysulfide adhesives are water-resistant, salt-spray-resistant, hydrocarbon-resistant, ethanol-resistant, and acetone-resistant. They have good weather resistance and are suitable for use at -100°C or lower. The maximum service temperature is about 50-82. °C. Adhesives have good moisture resistance, but they are poor for stressed adhesives. Some adhesives of this adhesive will corrode copper adherends.
Epoxy-polysulfide adhesives are mainly used for structural assembly requiring a certain degree of elasticity, bonding of concrete, floors, airstrips, bridges and other concrete structures, metals, glass, ceramics, wood, rubber and certain plastics. Particularly suitable for outdoor use where the temperature is too low (frozen melting cycle).
Epoxy-polysulfide adhesives are used to properly increase the amount of filler without compromising its performance.
