Recently, scientists at the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics in Germany successfully realized the exchange of information between two photons and invented a "univiersal quantum gate" that can be used for all-optical quantum information operations. It solves the core problem of information exchange between photons. The quantum gates they invented can be applied to photons to perform many related operations.
"With this universal quantum gate, we have the cornerstone of the future quantum quantum computer," said Gerhard Lamper, director of the Max Planck Institute in Garsin. The European Commission intends to invest 1 billion euros in this 10-year research project.
