Low-cost, shelf-stable Leemon cup

In early 2003, Alpina Productos Alimenticios SA, a food and beverage packager in Sopo, Colombia, introduced Colombia's first thermoformed polypropylene packaging container designed specifically for Leemon lemonade drinks.

This 200ml storage-resistant packaging cup was supplied by Carpak Rigid Packaging Division. It uses Millick 3988 transparent material from Milliken Chemicals.

"Carpak helped us to produce this transparent packaging container at a lower cost, using existing equipment." said Federico Hincapie, a packaging engineer at Alpina. "Using Millad's transparent PP compound, our new lemon Water packaging has excellent transparency, so that our products have a good natural lemon appearance. In addition, this package also has a good hardness and impact resistance, and the price is cheap, has a strong Competitive.” This Leemon cup package uses dry offset printing and aluminum film sealing.

The unit price of this Leemon cup is 600 pesos, while the same 350 ml PET bottle package costs 1,100 pesos. In addition, the 700 pesos can be purchased in an updated 200 ml package.

“It's low cost and a 60-day shelf life that allows people to stop buying the original PET bottled Leemon drink.” Hincapie said, “This new packaging is helping us increase our market share.”
